GFA crews dipnet Brown Bear Creek sockeye. These sockeye are a genetically unique, river-run sockeye. GFA collects DNA samples each season to learn more about this unique, at risk salmon run.

Kitwanga Smolt Enumeration Facility

Looking upstream at the inclined plane trap that GFA used prior to construction of the smolt fence. Two nets were used as wings to funnel fish into two traps, catching a small % of the total run.

Kitwanga River Salmon Enumeration Facility

This chum salmon was captured to take scale and length samples. Very few chum salmon stocks are being monitored in the Skeena watershed - alarming considering the low #'s observed in the Kitwanga.
